I have longstanding involvement in democratic reform issues.
I have worked for think tanks with an interest in democratic issues and carried out Rowntree-funded research in this area.
I was an adviser to the House of Commons Political and Constitutional Reform Committee during its inquiry in 2010-15 into the subject of whether the United Kingdom should introduce a written constitution.
I am now Senior Lecturer in Politics and Contemporary History at King’s College London. I am the author of numerous books and articles on democratic reform issues, and make regular appearances on UK and international media.
I have been an adviser to democratic reform groups operating in countries including Ukraine, Turkey, Pakistan and Iran.
